Background: The ongoing outbreak of Bundibugyo virus disease in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda has highlighted persistent challenges in epidemic preparedness and response. Unlike Ebola virus disease caused by Zaire ebolavirus, no licensed vaccine or pathogen-specific therapeutic currently exists for Bundibugyo virus disease.
