The JHLDP-NL, implemented by AFREhealth, aims to enhance the leadership, knowledge, and skills of nurses and midwives working in Africa's healthcare systems. The program focuses on understanding key clinical, professional, leadership, management, and personal development topics that impact health service delivery and how leadership development can strengthen health systems to improve population health across Africa.
Learning Outcomes:
- Examine the structures of health systems in Africa and their service delivery.
- Analyze the professional and personal challenges faced by nurses and midwives in Africa.
- Apply leadership and governance skills to improve health services.
- Identify improvements in health systems driven by nursing and midwifery leadership.
- Clarify the link between leadership in nursing and midwifery and population health outcomes.
Methodology:
The course is designed around interactive learning, fostering a community where participants learn from experts and each other. The curriculum was developed by 15 leaders in nursing and midwifery across Africa, including Deans, government officials, consultants, WHO advisors, community leaders, and academics.

The program is delivered online through the AFREhealth Learning Management System (LMS) and Virtual technologies, Zoom for lessons, discussions, readings, and assignments.
