1. Overview
AFREhealth is a pan-African organization dedicated to the advancement of health professions education, research and service delivery. The AFREhealth Student Community (ASC), is the vibrant student arm of AFREhealth, composed of undergraduate, masters, and PhD-level students from various health disciplines across the continent with a strong commitment to advancing AFREhealth’s vision and mission by taking on active roles in promoting student engagement and participation in various activities.

The ASC is calling for applications from students from AFREhealth member institutions who are interested in leading the group for the next tenure. Students in their final year of study are not eligible to apply.

Announcement - Passing of Prof Alfred Mteta, Vice President of AFREhealth

Dear AFREhealth Community, 

It is with immense sorrow that we announce the passing of Prof Alfred Mteta, our esteemed Vice President of AFREhealth, East Africa Regional Chapter Co-Lead and AFREhealth representative on the CUGH Board. He was one of the founding members of AFREhealth. This loss is deeply felt by our organization.  

Prof Alfred Mteta was an exceptional individual whose unwavering dedication and invaluable contributions to AFREhealth have been instrumental in shaping our organization's vision and mission. He has left an indelible mark on our community. 

During this difficult time, our thoughts and deepest condolences go out to Prof Alfred Mteta's family, friends, colleagues, and all those whose lives he touched. We share in their grief and offer our support as they navigate through this profound loss. 

As we mourn the passing of Prof Alfred Mteta, let us also carry forward his legacy by continuing the work he was so passionate about. Together, let us strive to uphold his vision of a healthier Africa and remain committed to the goals and values that he held dear. 

May Prof Alfred Mteta's soul rest in eternal peace, and may his legacy continue to inspire us in our collective efforts to advance healthcare in Africa.

Dear AFREhealth member,
I hope this message finds you well. We are excited to announce a unique opportunity for individuals with expertise in various fields of endeavours to contribute to the evaluation of AFREhealth's impact and effectiveness in the African continent. As part of our commitment to continuous improvement and transparency, we are launching the "Leveraging AFREhealth For Impact: A 5-Year Analysis and Proposed Research Agenda. (L AFIA_5YAPRA)”.

Project Overview:

The "LAFIA_5YAPRA" project is a comprehensive evaluation initiative aimed at assessing AFREhealth's performance in achieving its stated goals and examining its impact on local communities across the African continent. Additionally, we seek to uncover any unintended consequences, both negative and positive, resulting from AFREhealth's activities since its inception. To undertake this project successfully, we require a diverse team of dedicated volunteers with expertise in the following areas:

  • Needs Assessment
  • Tool Development
  • Qualitative Data Collection
  • Quantitative Data Collection
  • Monitoring and Evaluation
  • Data Analysis
  • Report and Manuscript Writing

Volunteer Information:

Interested individuals are invited to express their interest in joining our project team. Whether you have volunteered on this with AFREhealth before or you are considering joining us for the first time, we welcome your participation. Please take note of the following details:

Call for Interest Period: Monday, September 25, 2023, to Monday, 16 October 2023.

Closing Time: 5 PM (GMT + 1) on Friday, 13 October 2023.

We aim to assemble a dedicated and diverse team that can collectively address the multifaceted aspects of this evaluation.

We believe that this project will provide valuable insights into AFREhealth's journey and help us chart a meaningful path for the future. Your contributions as volunteers will be instrumental in this endeavour.
