PROJECT TITLE: STRIPE HIV – Scott College of Nursing

PROJECT YEAR 1 RECAP: Scott College of Nursing trained 9 facilitators to facilitate the STRIPE HIV modules to 72 learners in a series of three training workshops. One COVID-19 workshop was conducted for third year students before their clinical experience.

PROJECT YEAR 2 SUMMARY: The College trained 6 facilitators and 193 learners through six workshops. Diverse cadres of pre and post-service learners were represented, including nursing and midwifery students, employed nurses, nurse educators, pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, laboratory technicians and technologists. In response to COVID-19, workshops were adapted to a virtual format using Zoom. Facilitators were trained to use Zoom and Moodle and successfully reached learners in remote parts of the country.

MAIN ACCOMPLISHMENTS

  • Trained 6 facilitators to facilitate 6 workshops
  • Trained 193 learners on 6 modules
  • Adapted to COVID-19 pandemic by conducting trainings virtually via Zoom, including the introduction of eLearning tools to students and faculty
  • The Deputy Program Director participated in the Professor James Hakim Leadership Development Program

 

CHALLENGES AND SOLUTIONS

  • Internet was unstable in rural areas. Unfortunately, this could not be addressed.

BROADER IMPACT: The institution will continue to facilitate teaching and learning using e-Learning on some modules to ensure that students are competent in the use of technology. The College has printed STRIPE year 2 modules and placed them in the library for reference purposes.
