Prof Evelyn Chilemba is a nurse educator with over thirty-two years of University teaching experience. She obtained a PhD from the University of the Witwatersrand in the Republic of South Africa. Her interest is research in student learning, specifically learning for practice. She has intensified research skills in student learning, and has developed clinical learning indicators, analyzed teaching styles, learning styles, learning approaches, and contributed widely to curriculum development and implementation.
She was the Dean of the Faculty of Nursing for two consecutive two-year terms - 2005 to 2008. During her tenure, Prof Chilemba spearheaded the advancement of the first-ever international teacher and student exchange programs with the University of Finland, Amsterdam University, and the University of Scotland, and initiated students’ international movements. These interactions have made her university known globally. She founded the Malawi chapter of the Sigma Theta Tau International in 2006 and served as president and vice president, overseeing the honour society's professional agenda. She won grants as Principal Investigator with STRIPE HIV and AFREhealth for capacity building, advancing HIV care, pandemic preparedness, and developed training modules.
With the AFREhealth small grants, she has developed clinical learning indicators for undergraduate health professionals. She is a member of the Expert panel for strengthening interprofessional education. Prof Chilemba participated in the capacity-building for health care professional grant, where she was the Team lead on the education theme. She has presented over twenty (20) research papers at research conferences and more than twenty (20) research publications.
