Onesmus Gachuno

After completing residency in Ob/GYN at University of Nairobi (UoN) in 2001, I joined the University of Nairobi (UoN) as a Faculty in Ob/Gyn. In 2007, became a PMTCT Lead in the UoN teaching Hospitals Funded by PEPFAR. We pioneered the use of Option B plus and later Universal ART for all newly diagnosed with HIV in Kenya at UoN teaching Hospitals. From 2010 up to date, we were able to attain elimination of Vertical Transmission at the two facilities. I steered the annual National Symposium in PMTCT from 2008 until 2012 which brought stakeholders for the purpose of disseminating the latest evidence-based practice. I was a member of the National PMTCT TWG from 2008 until 2018. In 2013, together with other technical personnel, we developed the National Advanced HIV Clinical Course (NAHCC) under the auspices of Partnership for Advanced Clinical Education (PACE) through PEPFAR Funding. I was an AIM Lead from 2016 until 2023 in UON Health Education Partnership Initiative (HEPI) grant that was funded by NIH, I was director for MEPI Program in Kenya (PRIME-K) and also an AIM Lead in a linked award between 2013 and 2016. From 2011 until 2020, I was the country lead and member of the Working Group for AFYABORA(ABC) program which was a consortium of 5 African, 4 US universities and China Medical Board tasked with training fellows in global health leadership. I have been PI for STRIPE program in Kenya funded by HRSA through UCSF focusing on HIV training
