A full Professor of Human Parasitology at the Eduardo Mondlane University (UEM), Faculty of Medicine (FoM) in Mozambique, Vice President of the Mozambique Institute for Health Education and Research (MIHER) and invited Professor at the University of California San Diego in United States of America (US). Her research focuses on Infectious Diseases and its intersection with HIV. She is also an implementation Science Specialist devoted to developing innovative strategies to train health professionals and research capacity development. She served as the Dean of the UEM-FoM (2002 – 2006) and Vice-Rector of Lurio University (2015-2017). Since 2010 she has been leading several grants including the Medical Education Partnership Initiative (MEPI), Health Professional Partnership Initiative (HEPI) and other training grants, funded by the US Department of State under the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief and the US National Institutes of Health. These grants aimed to accelerate the training of physicians and other health professionals, build research capacity, and leverage north-south and south-south collaborations in the country and across African institutions committed to global health issues. As an outcome of MEPI, she participated in AFREhealth’s creation and currently actively participates in the Research Subcommittee. She is also an active member of the Consortium of Universities for Global Health (CUGH).
