Geneviève Moineau

Geneviève Moineau, MD, FRCPC, is President and CEO of the Association of Faculties of Medicine of Canada (AFMC). Dr. Moineau received her MD at the University of Ottawa and completed her Pediatric Residency at the University of Toronto’s Hospital for Sick Children. She is Professor in the Department of Paediatrics and Emergency Medicine at the University of Ottawa and practices Pediatric Emergency Medicine at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario.

At the University of Ottawa, Dr Moineau served as Associate Dean, Undergraduate Medical Education, where she led the faculty through a complete curriculum renewal and an outstanding MD program accreditation result. She was named Honorary Class President by the graduating class on seven occasions, has a Faculty of Medicine Leadership Award established in her name, is the recipient of the Faculty of Medicine 2010 Award of Distinction and in 2019, she received the Alumni Exceptional Leadership Award.

Dr. Moineau joined the AFMC in 2011, when she took the position of VP Education and Secretary to CACMS and CACME. Since 2013 as President and CEO, she has led the development of a memorandum of understanding with the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC), the American Medical Association, and the Canadian Medical Association on the Canadianization of medical school accreditation. She has also negotiated a collaboration agreement with the Conférence Internationale des Doyens et des Facultés de Médecine d’Expression Française (CIDMEF).

Dr. Moineau has been instrumental in AFMC’s success in advocacy for physician resource planning to meet Canada’s future needs for physician supply. In addition, she is highly sought internationally as an expert on accreditation in medical education. She is an avid promoter for social accountability of faculties of medicine in Canada and abroad.
